Career City Recap

On May 7, 2014, Ranger Technical Resources and Ranger Good Works hosted Career City, a fun and interactive version of Career Day, for the 2nd through 5th graders of Dillard Elementary School. More than 50 companies comprising over 150 representatives participated in this event, bestowing upon the students a tremendous amount of love and support.

All of our participants brought something exciting and informative to the event; no matter where you were located on the campus, there was always something fun for the students to observe or experience. The Miami Dolphins took over the playground area and set up a training camp to demonstrate a day in the life of a football player. Outside of the school, the kids were able to tour a fire truck, SWAT vehicle, limousine, and Yellow Cab, as well as watch a demonstration on how the Fort Lauderdale Police handle their horses and K-9’s. There were Bounce Houses to enjoy in addition to the cars and ATV’s provided by Rick Case automotive.

Inside of Career City, the students experienced firsthand what it felt like to take a walk through a safe and inviting place, which we created just for them. Students learned about various professions and many of our local industries during their walkthrough. The kids were able to make a connection with our participants who showed that they cared by demonstrating their profession, preparing foods and treats, performing live music, and displaying other forms of entertainment. Most importantly, they had the chance to ask questions and engage with professionals in a comfortable environment.

It took several helping hands to build Career City. Our registered volunteers and participants spanned several industries and occupations including Athletes, Automotive, Banking, Confection, Construction, Cosmetology, Doctors, Fashion, Film, Government, Health and Wellness, Higher Education, Insurance, Interior Design, Law Enforcement and Safety, Media, Restaurants, Retail, Technology and many more.

Career City was a huge success thanks to everyone’s generosity and support! The love and warmth shown to the children of Dillard Elementary will be remembered forever. Stay tuned for a beautiful video of the event which will be posted to www.rangergoodworks.org in the near future.
