Economic Development Partnership
One Community One Goal (OCOG) plans to launch later this year the Talent Development Network, a new online system that will match college students with paid internships at local businesses. The community-wide initiative is looking for grants to help support the new program meant to grow Miami-Dade County’s intellectual capital by providing career opportunities to talented students who otherwise may leave Miami-Dade for another location. The funds will go towards developing, creating and maintaining an online platform that will connect all the participating academic institutions.
The Miami Foundation has offered a $100,000 challenge grant to establish the network.
OCOG’s Academic Leaders Council, led by Florida International University President Mark A. Rosenberg, initiated the Talent Development Network as a way to address talent retention issues cited in the OCOG target industry strategic plan, a blueprint for local economic growth.
The Beacon Council is pleased to thank the following for their support of this important project: The Miami Foundation for the challenge grant and the following organizations for their $5,000 contributions; American Airlines, Baptist Health South Florida, Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the Shaffer Foundation.
The Beacon Council also thanks the following for their guidance and leadership; Florida International University President Rosenberg, Barry University President Sister Linda Bevilacqua, Florida Memorial University Interim President Roslyn Clark Artis, Miami Dade College President Eduardo J. Padrón, Miami-Dade County Public Schools Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho, St. Thomas University President Msgr. Franklyn M. Casale, and University of Miami President Donna E. Shalala.
